Constructed between 1894 and 1915 but never completed, St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption was modeled after the Gothic-style Abbey Church of St. Denis in Paris. Measuring 67 feet by 24 feet, the impressive north stained glass window was handcrafted in Germany and is the largest in the world. Large murals created by painter Frank Duveneck grace the walls of the chapel while the cathedral is surrounded by gardens designed by the prominent landscape architect John Bentley. A few blocks from the Suspension Bridge connecting Cincinnati to Covington, volunteers at the cathedral distributes free brochures for self-guided tours.
